Class 11

Welcome to Year 6!

What are we up to?

Our topic this term in Ancient Greece. We have begun the topic by becoming archaeologists and piecing back together a Greek pot or plate. We have now begun making our own Greek inspired pottery. Please visit our classrooms and watch our pots develop.

In English we have been studying Greek myths and are currently in the process of writing our own version of a myth called “Theseus and the Minotaur”.

P.E.

P.E. now takes place on a Friday afternoon.

Autumn 1 = Class 11 Ice skating and Class 12 P.E. in school.

Autumn 2 = Class 12 Ice skating and Class 11 P.E. in school.

For ice skating children will need warm clothes and a jumper; they can bring gloves etc if they wish. Skates will be provided by the arena, so children do not need to bring their own.

It is very important that the children all have the right P.E. kit for both PE sessions and clubs.  PE kit consists of jogging bottoms and/or shorts, a clean t-shirt and jumper, and trainers. Children must remove earrings and have hair tied back.

Home Learning

Children are expected to read at home every night, and also to practice spellings which will be given out every Monday. Maths and grammar home learning will be given out once a week. All of these tasks will help enable the children to move on to their next school well equipped for their future education. We thank you in advance for your support.

E-Safety

In Year 6 we know how important it is to make sure we stay safe when we are using the internet. We always remember that there are many different e-safety strategies that we can use. These are our Year 6 Golden E-safety rules (which are displayed in our classroom):

1. Always ask for permission!
2. Use safe search engines (Kidrex or Smartypants)
3. Only talk to people you know
4. Don’t retaliate, just report it
5. Keep your personal details private
6. Use appropriate social networking sites and only use appropriate language
