Class 2

What we are up to and welcome

Welcome back! We hope you had a great Easter.

This summer term our topic is ‘We are what we eat’. In Literacy we will be reading a variety of books all about food including, Everybody cooks rice and Oliver’s Fruit Salad. We will be learning how to use adjectives to describe different food. We will also be looking at how to add suffixes to root words and consolidating the skills we have learned so far this year.

As part of our Topic work will be learning about how food grows, where food comes from and how to prepare and cook food. In Art we will be learning how to mix primary colours to make secondary colours and painting different types of fruit. We will also be looking at observational drawing. In Design and Technology we will be designing and making our own fruit salad.

As part of our Computing curriculum we will be learning programming using software called Scratch.

The year 1 team in Class 2 is:

Mrs Buckland (Teacher; Wed, Thurs, Fri)

Mrs Cranefield (Teacher; Mon, Tues)

Mrs Parkin (Teaching Assistant; Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs)

Our PE lessons will be on a Friday morning. This term we are doing gymnastics.

If your child wears earrings they must be removed for PE or if you are unable to remove them please send plasters so that we can cover them. This is for your child’s safety.

Home Learning and Reading

Thank you for all your support with Reading at home. It really does make a difference. Please try and hear your child read at home at least 3 times a week (if not more). Every Thursday we will be counting your child’s home reads and moving them up the Reading Olympic Chart.

Bronze= 15 home reads

Silver= 25 home reads

Gold= 40 home reads

Ruby= 70 home reads

Diamond= 100 home reads.

Home learning will be given out weekly on a Friday, and we ask for it to be returned the following Thursday, so that we can mark it and share what the children have done. Your child will be given maths home learning each Friday – which always relates to what they been taught in class that week. The children will also be given new spellings every week and they will be tested on these spellings every Monday –  so please practise them at home. A Topic Home Learning Menu will also be sent out at the beginning of the term, which has 3 or 4 ideas relating to our topic. We love to share what the children have made so please send it into school once it is completed. Thank you for all your support and help with home learning!

If you have any free time and would like to come and hear readers it would be greatly appreciated!

Golden Time
Your child might have been talking about Golden time. Golden time is a whole school reward. During the week children earn time to then play and celebrate on a friday afternoon. However, some children may earn more time than others depending on how well they meet our school rules.

The staff fill the classroom with a range of activities and games that the children enjoy freely playing with.
