What we are up to

This term our project is called There’s no place like Home. In Geography we will be exploring the different homes in the local area  and in History we will be looking at homes in the past. In Science we will be investigating the different types of materials used to build homes. Art , Music Design and Computing will also be linked to our Project on Homes.  We will be drawing and designing homes, singing about homes and creating homes using computer programmes!

ENGLISH – Writing & Reading

Our writing will be linked to Homes; The Three Little Wolves & the Big Bad Pig & The Smartest giant in Town Children will be given spellings and will be tested each Monday.

In Maths  we will be concentrating on numbers up to 100 as well as addition & subtraction this term. Children will be given home work each week on a Monday.  Please hand it in the following week. Children in year 2 need to know their 2, 5, 10, 3 times tables…so please practise!

There are always cups for water in the classroom for the children if they need a drink. At playtime school provides the children with a piece of fruit.

We have looked at E-Safety and learnt about how to stay safe online. These are our  rules. 1. Tell a grown up if you feel scared or unhappy about anything. 2. Don’t send pictures to people you don’t know. 3. Don’t tell strangers where you live, your phone number or where you go to school. Only your friends and family need to know that. 4. Be respectful to others. 5. Always ask a grown up before you use the internet or you connect with people on an iPad, phone or games console.

Our PE lessons will be on a Wednesday afternoon.  Please ensure your child brings a full PE kit to change into, including appropriate footwear, as we will be doing PE outside. No ear rings please.

In line with the school’s policy the children will be expected to complete home work tasks.

Maths  We will hand this out each week on a Monday. It needs to be returned the following week.

Spellings The children will be given spellings to learn and they will be tested each week on a Monday.

Reading Reading is a priority for all children. In Year 2, reading at home will be monitored through the ‘Reading Olympics’. 10 minutes is all it takes…we really hope that you will support us with this. Some children will be set weekly comprehension reading tasks.
