Class 4

Class 4

What we are up to

This term our project is called Made in Britain. We will explore some of the different places in Great Britain – particularly the British  countryside and seaside.

ENGLISH – Writing & Reading

Our writing will also be linked to Great Britain – we will explore British animals and the seaside! Children will be given spellings and will be  tested each Friday. Please read with your child as much as  possible – it will make a difference to your child’s reading progress.

For Numeracy we will teach the children in ability groups across the year group.

Curriculum Objectives Year 2

This term SEAL will be about relationships, looking at the gender stereotypes of girls and boys. We will be naming the different body parts for girls and boys; looking at differences and similarities and using the correct terminology. This is part of a whole school  approach.

We have looked at E-Safety and learnt about how to stay safe online. These are our  rules. 1. Tell a grown up if you feel scared or unhappy about anything. 2. Don’t send pictures to people you don’t know. 3. Don’t tell strangers where you live, your phone number or where you go to school. Only your friends and family need to know that. 4. Be respectful to others. 5. Always ask a grown up before you use the internet or you connect with people on an iPad, phone or games console.

Our PE lessons will be on a Monday and will be lead by Miss Spencer, a specialist PE teacher. Please ensure your child brings a full PE kit to change into, including appropriate footwear, as we will be doing PE outside. No ear rings please.

In line with the school’s policy the children will be expected to complete home work tasks.

Numeracy This will be set by the child’s Numeracy teacher once a week and needs to be handed in the following week.

Spellings The children will be given spellings to learn and they will be tested each week on a Friday.

Reading Reading is a priority for all children. In Year 2, reading at home will be monitored through the ‘Reading Olympics’. 10 minutes is all it takes…we really hope that you will support us with this. Some children will be set weekly comprehension reading tasks.
