Foundation 2

What we are up to

Welcome to our Foundation 2 page, here you will learn about what we have been up to!

Our Foundation 2 children really have begun their academic journey with a flying start.  Our first topic ‘Hands and feet’ was enjoyed by all and provided lots of opportunities to get to know each other!  We have just started a new topic about bears and the children have thought of questions they would like to investigate.

During the busy week in Foundation children will engage in differentiated writing, handwriting, maths and phonics groups. This ensures sessions are specifically planned to meet the learning needs of your child, considering their strengths and next steps. These sessions are delivered in a hands on, multi-sensory way, which motivates and inspires children to learn. Children have loved our circle time sessions, where they get the opportunity to share their ideas and experiences making them feel important and valued. This session also emphasises the importance of good listening. Meditation happens every day after lunch to calm the children and teach them about the importance of quiet times. I hope they have told you all about it!

To celebrate children making the right choices and following our school rules, you may hear your children talk about Pupil Points and the Integrity Award.  The Integrity Award is given to one pupil a week in each class for having an outstanding week! Parents are notified by a letter and is celebrated in our class assembly.  Pupil Points are given out for many reasons, such as; attendance, trying hard, being a kind friend, making good choices and tidying up. These points can be exchanged for items in our School Shop located in the Studio.

Home Learning

Please, please, please if you can support your child in any way we urge you to support and encourage your child to read at home every day. It can be as short as 5 minutes but please be assured that your work will be vital to your child; helping them to develop a real love and respect for reading that will carry them through their everlasting learning journey. It is crucial that you record every read in their reading diary as this allows us to track their achievement in line with our whole school ‘Reading Olympics’. Children receive stickers or certificates for:

Bronze 15 reads
Silver 25 reads
Gold 40 reads
Ruby 70 reads
Diamond 100 reads

This half term our reading reward party is on Thursday 20th October.

This half term our P.E sessions are on a Monday morning. We do however always try our best to fit in extra physical activities such as outside.
