China comes to Netherfield
Netherfield Gala had a distinctly Chinese feel this year, with Chinese music, dancing and Tai Chi demonstrations from both primary school pupils and visitors.
Proceeds from the event at the end of June, will go towards the school’s Chinese exchange programme which will see a group of pupils visiting their pen-pals in China later in the year.
In her opening remarks, Mayor of Gedling, Cllr Barbara Miller, thanked the Chinese delegation from Confucius Institute for their contribution to the event and for providing the school with Miss Xi Chen, the Mandarin Chinese language teacher who has taught Netherfield’s Year 5 children so well over the course of the year.
As always, there was a tremendous variety of stalls and food. Crowds were also entertained by the Burton Joyce Brass Band, the school choir and by a great set from local band Unknown Era who closed the Gala.
